Porosint Bricks — Lightweight Insulation Refractory Bricks
Porosint bricks are high-porosity, lightweight refractory bricks engineered to deliver excellent thermal insulation, low heat storage and improved energy efficiency for high-temperature furnaces and kilns. Designed as a backup or primary insulating layer, Porosint delivers superior insulation performance where reducing heat loss and fast thermal cycling are important.
Product overview
Porosint Insulation Bricks combine a porous microstructure with refractory raw materials to achieve low bulk density and low thermal conductivity. They’re ideal as backup insulation behind dense firebricks, for roof & wall insulation in heat-treatment and melting furnaces, and wherever weight savings and thermal efficiency are priorities.
Key highlights:
- Service temperature options up to 1,450–1,600°C (depending on grade)
- Very low bulk density for reduced structural load
- High apparent porosity → very low thermal conductivity
- Available in standard brick sizes and custom shapes/cutting
Typical applications
- Backup insulation for kiln and furnace linings
- Heat-treatment furnaces (annealing, tempering)
- Aluminium and non-ferrous metal holding & melting furnaces
- Ceramic and glass kiln roofs & walls
- Chemical process heaters and industrial ovens where insulation is critical
Features & benefits
- Excellent thermal insulation — reduces fuel consumption and operating cost.
- Lightweight — easier handling and lower structural support requirements.
- Fast thermal response — low heat storage for quicker heating/cooling cycles.
- Good thermal shock resistance — suited to cyclic operations.
- Easy to cut & shape — allows close fitting and minimal cold joints.
- Cost-effective lifecycle — energy savings offset initial material cost over time.
Typical technical specifications (example grades)
| Parameter | Typical value (grade dependent) | |
| Service temperature | 1,200°C — 1,600°C | |
| Bulk density | 0.6 — 1.2 g/cm³ | |
| Apparent porosity | 45% — 70% | |
| Thermal conductivity | 0.2 — 0.6 W/m·K (varying with temperature & grade) | |
| Cold crushing strength (CCS) | 5 — 30 kg/cm² (insulation bricks are lower than dense bricks) | |
| Linear shrinkage on firing | ≤ 1.0% (depending on grade) |

Installation & handling guidelines
- Store dry, off the ground and under cover to avoid moisture pickup.
- Use appropriate refractory mortar recommended for insulation bricks; avoid dense mortars that can create cold spots.
- Cut with carbide tools or saws designed for refractory materials to achieve tight joints.
- Avoid mechanical point loads — provide backing or supports where bricks carry mechanical loads.
- Where exposed to abrasion or direct flame/metal splash, protect with a dense refractory facing layer.
Available sizes & customisation
Standard brick sizes and special shapes (wedges, arch bricks, cut blocks) available. Custom densities and grade formulations can be supplied for specialized service temperatures and process conditions. Contact sales for lead times and minimum order quantities.
